I have a TB mare on an intelligent worming programme of wormers every month for 6 months (following worm count of 850stronglyes) - don't have much say in this as on a livery yard. She was last wormed at start of october with ivermectin, also has L94 during worming and always on silver lining herbs, tenderfoot and protexin and has suddenly become very footsore. Does anyone have any suggestions to help get her through this worming programme?

Hi

I add some Altech Yea Sacc to my horses feed after worming for Encysted Redworm and Tape twice yearly for a couple of weeks, to put the gut flora back and help absorb the good energy as well as just absorbing the sugars in the feeds.

My horses haven't been footy since worming 2 weeks ago and in fact I am riding my competition horse out on stoney tracks for the first time in almost 3 years without being booted!

Jo

If she was wormed at the beginning of Oct I would normally expect to see footiness earlier than now.  Could it be a grass spurt ?

Thanks Jo will have a look

She hasn't has any grass for about 10 days, developed footiness on wednesday so I think its unlikely to be the grass. She normally becomes footy about 1 week after worming, then gets sore kidneys, followed by sore liver point and seems to recover after 1-2 weeks. Mel suggested it could be a late reaction to wormer that has been stored in her fat cells?

Other option is it could be hormone related - she's out on a concrete yard with a mare with hormonal issues (persistent follicle?) and has just come into season and is acting hormonally which is unusual for her as she's not normally mareish.
