That horses be turned out into a field where this has all been dumped?

I am not sure that I do think it is acceptable. I'm a little annoyed to say the least.  Evil or Very Mad  Confused At least my horse is sensible - but where the herd goes they all go. I am going in 3 days so limited time to have an accident - not that it makes it less likely - but I am so worried about the really nice horses that will remain in there.

it is a time bomb. It really is.

Of course its not acceptable and the field owner could be sued if an accident happened.

That's not good! Can't it at least be fenced off?

Not good, especially when the owner is taking money for it!  All those sticky up rods.

Have you seen the thin glossy paperback photographic guides, I think they are published by Allen.  There is one on field management and I have to say my field looks like their version of a badly maintained field with the vet's friend barbed wire fences, and old baths dumped in boggy areas.  Initially I taped off everywhere, but over time I've worked out which bits actually are a hazard, and which bits the horses enjoy, like bramble and rosehips growing on rubbly dumps of earth.  It has also helped with the mini-track system over the summer, which can be bigger and better next year!

Fingers crossed for your neddies, hope the move goes smoothly!  Very Happy

Which definition of "acceptable" could that possibly come under Shocked

I assume the dumper's own horses, if they have any, are not in that field??????

Good luck with the move Bruce.

No - they are not. I asked the YO's partner if she was happy for her horse to go in there and she evaded answering!

I did ask about fencing it off and got a very "unhelpful" reply from the yard manager. Being polite and politic here Smile

It's not acceptable, and yes they are taking rather a lot of money, and probably nothing will be done about it. But I took pictures anyway in case my horse does get injured and I need to tell the insurance company why it happened.

There have been 4 yard related injuries in the last 4 months on fencing, field shelters, new horses put in with the others witout being introduced appropriately...

Absolutely not on in my opinion, Bruce - those loops of metal look particularly nasty.   I'm obsessive about safety, not only for our own horses but because we have other people's coming in, and I know how I would feel about entrusting my horse to someone else, so I am even more paranoid about them than I am with ours!

To be honest, it beggars belief that someone could run a yard and dump that sort of stuff in a field which they expect liveries to use.  Shocked  Evil or Very Mad

Me too Nic - beggars belief. There are lovely horses in that field, and some of them are older veterans who can't get out of the way of the younger ones quite as quick as they used to be able to, and they are the ones that will get pushed on to it if there is a rammy.

I won't name the yard, but everyone local to me knows where I am. I spoke with the YO tonight about it and he said the YM had been told to put up a tape fence round it. That will help, I pointed out, but what about when there is heavy snow drifting and high winds....which may be quite soon methinks.

These are issues I have been struggling with for a long time. That field is being used becuase it is the only one that has been rested for a few weeks. There are now so many horses at the yard that the fields cannot be rotated and rested adequately - and more horses on the way to fill new stables just built.

I hope, really hope, that none of the geldings get hurt on it. My own horse only has 2 more nights (he is in the dry lot during the day). Such a pity - it used to be a brilliant yard and we loved being there.
