THE COMPETITION
Trec is a fun competition comprising of three phases:
1 - POR: Orienteering on horseback; with a map and record card you will find your way around a pre-determined course via a number of checkpoints. It is not a race, the aim is for you to prove you can find the correct route as close to a specified time as possible. Points are lost for being under or over the optimum time for a section and for any error of course.
2 - CoP: Control of paces; tests the rider’s control of their horse’s paces by cantering as slowly as possible down a marked corridor and returning in walk as quickly as possible. Any break in pace or step outside the corridor results in zero score for that pace.
3 - PTV: Obstacle course; a course involving 16 natural or simulated obstacles. The course map and list of obstacles will be on display with the secretary.
At Level 1 the competition takes place on one day, at Level 2 and above it is usually over two days. Level 1 is ideal for first timers and anyone who prefers a shorter ride.
NB: the results may not be available on the day, please bring a SAE to receive your score sheet and rosette.
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
Tack and equipment will be checked. The following should be carried on the POR phase, failure to have these items incurs a 2 point penalty for each item up to a maximum of 10 penalty points:
• Compass Waterproofs (i.e. jacket)
• Basic First aid kit for horse and rider Whistle
• Headcollar and rope (or combination bridle) Map marking pen
• Torch or suitable light
