Happy Tummy - new feed supplementI saw an advert/article for this product in a free magazine (Equi-Ads) when I picked up my feed. It's an activated charcoal based supplement that you just add to your existing feed.

On reading the blurb it's supposed to mop up any toxins in the gut so they don't get absorbed into the blood stream.
My first thought was - Brilliant, I'll use this and never have a problem again but then I got to wondering how the charcoal stuff 'decided' which was a toxin and which wasn't.
As anyone else read the article?

Edited to add link to product info.

My parents used to feed their spaniel charcoal biscuits. If they didn't feed them daily - you just couldn't breathe when he dropped one in the same room.
I read somewhere that an activated charcoal gel could be used for horses that had ingested an overload of grains - or other poisons?

Maybe I should buy some for my Grandma
Seriously though, it does seem to sound like a miracle cure for metabolic problems forever and I worry that people will read the info and then feed it to laminitics etc and forget to pay attention to diet and stuff like that thinking they don't need to worry ever, ever again

Alot of lammi supplements contain MOS (mannanogliosaccharide) which also binds to the toxins in the gut and carries them away in the bloodstream. As you said, not a substitute for correct management.

Social services might have something to say about you feeding Granny dog food. Hope you use the veteran mix at least.
