January 2008Fari still slightly dodgey on rocks but improving.
Morris rock crunching over anything at any speed. Jesta ditto as evidenced by him charging around this morning over my road planing tracks as if in joy at the start of a new year. Crossed from field to track without a break in speed or gait at a gallop.

Charlie - hunting 1 or 2 times per week - AWESOME - and Andy has now realised what a fab hunter he is and looks like I will only get him occasionally now...
Felix - AWESOME - the original and still the best, thank god too small for Andy
Bailey - prima donna, but rock-crunching so we will forgive her...
Ghost - now 24!!!!! Looking great, and has kept his topline brilliantly over the winter, has been working lightly only, as Anita is pregnant and they just pootle at the moment, but Andy is planning to jump him this spring
Conto - on great form again, hunting occasionally, when I get down to the reserve team, not totally rock-crunching, as he won't necessarily trot over flints, but more than happy to stomp over them
Monsoon - sound again, growing a lovely new hoof, must take some pics...
Jack Frost - rock-crunching, being ridden and is like a 3 yr old bless...
Lucy - rock-crunching feet, but still off work with tendon injury she came with...
Roll on 2008

Can I join in this?
Drummer is rock crunching, he is definitely better in winter! Been on a few long hacks but mostly pootled at hime lately, roll on the lighter nihgts!
Shadow thinks someone cut his leg off if he stands on a stone! Been riding him on soft ground (and in hand walking on tarmac) and he was doing well until a couple of days ago when he wasn't quite right. He will land heal first on a slope but is very toe first at the moment unless I can really get him to walk out! Think I might try the boots to se if I get an improvement!

Magic - rock crushing as usual
Ben - same as usual - will stomp in walk on stones but won't offer more!
Dan - footy since worming.....arrrrgggggh. Not surprised, he's got silly TB compromised guts and is into projectile poo at the best of times, so it was expected, but am still

Rio - largely happy to trot and canter on smooth hard surfaces and walk over more difficult ones without slowing up or trying to walk on the grass with an adult on board. Problem is most of our hacking is on soft going at the moment so she's not getting much conditioning or wear and consequently not growing as much hoof either.
Tess - Still doing fine by her standards, doing a bit more unbooted behind but excess wear seems to be an issue so keeping an eye on that. Have done a little bit unbooted in front on a ride with a few bits of hard track and she seemed to cope OK with that, so will tentatively push the envelope there too.
ETA Both mine were wormed with no obvious negative consequences a couple of weeks ago.

Mia - hoovesofconcrete as usual
Roxy - doing great. Will trot and canter even on quite stoney stuff but doesn't do as good an on one cobtrot as she does on the road.
Jay - slightly footy over stones on top of tarmac, pretty good considering how she was when we first got her!
Entire yard is barefoot and they all seemed very sound arsing about on frozen sand and concrete the other day.. and I was very glad they weren't trying to do that with shoes on!

My girl is good at the moment - riding out bare behind over most surfaces booted in front as usual as we have very flinty tracks but she is good unbooted on tarmac.
Her feet are still growing lots and not wearing unduly behind. After lots of trial and error with epic bares I now use old mac G2s on the front which are great and have never come off. If I use boots behind I use the epic bares with studs in otherwise i find them lethal on grass and in muddy conditions.

Justine is good at the moment although we don't have much paths with lots of stones. It is either beach / fields / roads or arena surface.
Hooves are growing very fast though - need to trim every 4 weeks.
Have noticed a ridge / event line growing down. Will measure at the week end but approx 2 cm from coronet band. I'm wondering if this is when I changed from 25g of Mg Ox to the tiny recommended amount of Maglite early Nov. She was wormed ~ 4 to 5 weeks ago - surely cannot have grown as fast as that ?

A couple of days of warmer temps and lots of rain and Tess has heat in the coronet band, slight pulses and is being careful Was feeding late cut haylage but have knocked on the head and gone back to hay. Hoping that will be enough to sort her out, it's the middle of winter

My friend was looking after Boy for a few days, for some reason didn't feed his minerals (grrr) and noticed he was slightly more careful when i rode him after this. Couple of days back on and he's fine tho (phew)
So yesterday we ploughed through floods up to his chest to go jumpies, and came 6th out of about 24, the only barefoot horse there too
Alos have amazing event line from when minerals were added to his diet, that i keep showing people, but they just don't get it

Lutine not doing too badly. Sound schooling in the field at all paces (unridden). Have been waiting for the osteo coming out before getting back on her as 'something' wasn't quite right about her lumbar, pelvis, sacroiliac area. Osteo results have been updated on her blog.
Tried to do some ground work with her in our 20m sand-based round pen and she looked reticent to stride out and use herself, although she wasn't head bobbing and she was landing heel first. However, we've had 3 weeks solid rain and her frogs have fallen apart - the usual winter routine for her so I think maybe the abrasive sand is uncomfortable.
We've not been out on the roads recently cos I'm fed up of being run off the road by crazy French drivers!

Well after finally moving to our new land I have discovered the field I identified as the winter field should be the summer field until I get the drainage done!! The hardcore has turned to like cement mix as I haven't really given it time to settle. However, the gang continue to have rock crunching performance, I think this is the best Abu has ever been.
Took delivery of youngster, 4 year old unbroken, Sakr, he has arrived straight from th egyptian dessert running free with the heard, feet a bit long and pionted!! Neverthless very rock crunching despite arriving in the bog!!
I really do put this down to diet and exersize, waiting in anticipation how they react to the new pasture in the spring as Iknew their old pasture so well,

Jazz jumping a metre on artificial arenas, hacking on any surface. His "new feet" now he can breathe properly are still growing in, with much tighter attachment quite obvious, and increasing concavity (surprise!).
Zippy sound on anything, super little feet now that his upright foalie-feet are disappearing at three and a half!
