Linseed and brewers yeast

It looks like, with all my queries, I am probably going to be swayed by the evidence that seaweed is a GOOD thing... definitely seems Top Spec balancer is NOT the way to optimal barefoot health; it's certainly not just you guys who have found that.

So have got my MagOx ordered, and am about to shop for linseed and brewers yeast.

Think I will probably feed about  20g of MagOx daily???  Correct me if I'm wrong.

Current feeding:

He's on spacious yet pretty sparse/rough turnout and when in (about 5 hours a day I guess) on adlib hay, and he's on fairly generous amounts of purabeet and Dengie alfalfa pellets, as recommended on this forum.

(feed merchant is on the case re. copra!)

So, today's latest question (I promise I'll shut up with the daily questions soon!) is how much linseed and brewers yeast?  600kg fit horse on moderate work (hunter trialling at weekends currently, schooling/hacking/fittening/roadwork/jumping during week).  Doesn't put on weight easily but certainly not a hat rack.

Thank you SO MUCH for your endless knowledge and advice.

I feed 100g linseed/day (Charnwood Milling). My pony (375kg) does not need extra weight/calories, and this amount will roughly provide the same amount of omega 3/6/9 as a diet of fresh forage would (the main reason I'm feeding linseed). I don't think there's a reason not to feed more, if your horse can use the extra calories and likes the stuff.
My boy absolutely loves his linseed, in fact it's the only way I can get him to eat all his supplements Smile
I feed around 15g MagOx. His forage contains already about 8.5g Mg, and I'm supplementing for a 2:1 balance Mg:Ca.

Don't feed brewers yeast myself, but Yea-Sacc at 10g/day.

That's about what I feed my pony each day, but the bigger lads get about half as much more of each.

Link does very well indeed on the linseed and his dodgy hocks have been far better on the linseed meeal than they ever were on the £100+ tubs of white powders I was using every 2 weeks at the vet's recommendation!

Start with 1 or 2 big handfuls of linseed per day - mine get one in each feed.  You can increase it if you want, but its high in protein and oil so that may be as much as you need.

Brewers yeast - add gradually, as its a distinctive taste, though most horses love it.  Mine get 2 x 75ml scoop per day.

Linseed - I was at the agri feed shop today and bought their last bag of the Charnwood stuff - but the lady there says she feeds a losenge linseed to her horses and it is £7 a bag rather than £24 - I took a handful in my pocket to try and they were much appreciated by the cob! That's actually not saying much - he'll eat anything!

I have written down the name of the company that makes them on the side of my feed bag which is at the yard - so I'll post it later. I do know that it has soem kind of grain extract (apparently like a glue) that is used in the pelletign process so that may not be suitable for the sensitive horses

Will post more when I find out more about it.

I checked out the linseed lozenges that my local feed merchant sells, as they were so much cheaper. I rang the manufacturer (can't remember who it was now, so may not be the same as the ones your looking at) and they contained molasis, so I stuck with Charnwood milling.
