Hi everyone I have two barefoot horses, they live out 24/7 in a 5 acre field in winter and 1.5 acres in summer. I've been reading this forum for a while but I dont think Ive posted. I have a few questions!
Is it best to use a feed balancer or a vit and min suppliment? mine are fed mostly grass/hay and in winter I usually feed speedi beet and a small amount of high fibre cubes. I have been using a feed balancer up to now, but after reading the forum I may ditch that and the high fibre cubes and stick to just speedi beet and some sort of vitamin and mineral suppliment/s -
any recommendations?
if it ain't broke don't fix it But if you have specific areas of your horses' health you think you can improve then there's really helpful people on here. Don't discount any aspect of health or behaviour as "that's just how they are", but also look at what is working and enjoy it!
I'd recommend buying the book Feet First by Nic Barker & Sarah Braithwaite... will help you make all the right choices and decisions... it's a great read too.
Would second the advice on FEET FIRST - its my bible.
But I would also pose this question to you : what is the performance of your barefoot horses ? if rock crunching on every surface then yeah, it aint broke so dont fix as you are where I would LOVE to be
if not, what are your "issues", where and when does your horse struggle to plonk those feet down happily. Its addressing your horse's particular issues which has succeeded for me anyways. _________________ X
