From a menacing broncer, to going bitless and then barefoot, we have gone through some changes and conquered some evils in the last 18mths when I purchased her as a green and unexpectedly quirky 5yo.
To be able to show you these pics is Huge for me
Pics of Jays 1st ever outings hunter trialing this autum. We done 3 in a row (weekends) and last outing we came 8th out of a huge class of 50+ (quite the norm) competitors. Well I never expected that! I wasn't riding to win. And we done this barefoot and bitless which I think is the best bit

She looks lovely well done.
I've just bought a Dr Cooks bitless bridle mainly so I don't hurt her mouth when I try to stop her desperatley trying to grab some grass when out riding. She is on very very restircted grazing poor soul.
I am happy with it but didn't notice any wonderful improvement but then she didn't appear to have any problem with her french link snaffle in the first place. I now tend to alternate them with no apparent problem at all, she seems very adaptable. |

Brilliant pictures, well done, may be that'll be me and Storm next year? Really inspirational.
I now ride both my horse and pony (ha ha ha, she laughs hysterically, pre-April lameness obviously, could all have changed by now) both bitless and bitted, having had amazing results bitless after lots of "issues" with the horse. I think if the horse has tension either physical or emotional it can be displayed as problems with the bit. |

| Yahooooooooooooooo!!!! Brilliant - well done!!!!!!!!! I too am on the Dr Cook's bitless since a couple of months ago and I can honestly say they're brilliant - my big cob who had no mouth at all (you literally had a two-handed yank on each side to try to get him to move!) is now almost balletic with the slightest touch. I'm a BIG fan! |

Well done. You've obviously put in a huge amount of work and got a lot of respect and trust back, you definitely deserve your proud mummy moment

Aww thankyou guys
Not such a good girl today, she put in 4/5 MaHoosive bucks out cantering today, how the hell I stayed on gawd knows!!
Yeh I am fan of the Dr Cooks Jay is quite an introverted person and she really had some emotional issues when I bought her and discovered it all all too late!
The bit certainly brought them out physically, bucking and running away! Removed the bit and I had a less emotional horse!
Advice I was given at time was, strap her mouth shut, needs a stronger bit, smack her when she bucks! I come to the conclusion the people were nuts and not my horse! I went complete opposite and went bitless and haven't looked back
She still is an emotional horse, thats her, I can only accept and manage it best I can. That aside she is an amazing horse
Jay goes fine in a bit, very nice in the Neue Scheule Team Up snaffle. But IMO best bitless and I love the no bit thang
It has only been since owning Jay have I gone all 'hippy' with horses, before I was very old school. I still want to do what I want I want to do (hunt and compete), but it's my approach and attitude that has changed and still learning |
